 East meets west in a cultural fusion of the traditional and the contemporary. Performers include: Ron Korb, a Japanese-Canadian world-renowned flautist, composer and international recording artist known as “Dragon Flute” in China, has played for Queen Elisabeth and in films by Oscar Award winner Ang Lee; violinist Chris McKhool, accompanied by fellow members of JUNO Award Nominees Sultans of Stringthrill audiences with a sonic tapestry of Spanish Flamenco, Arabic folk, Cuban rhythms, and French Gypsy-Jazz; Maghan McPhee, soprano and 2nd prize winner at the new-music Eckhardt-Gramatte competition performs both Asian and Western popular folksongs and aria;Ottawa Turkish Music Ensemble & Montreal Turkish Music Choir perform classical/folkloric Turkish music conducted by award winning composer, Ismail H. Fencioglu and both choirs have performed more than 30 concerts in Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto since 2001;Montreal’s Hua Yun Artistique Troupewill perform the popular Chinese Peking Opera legend“ the Monkey King” (Shijia (Michelle) Jiang) with its comical facial expression and movements, and also two dazzling Chinese folk dances; and Ottawa Tianyi Guzheng Studio perform exquisite pieces on multi-string Chinese zithers. A crowd favourite, the Indonesian Embassy will be back to present several unique Indonesian dances.
